Why do creative work?

I believe that we were all created.
Take that at face value; I'm still undecided as to exactly how we were all created.

I believe that we were all created on purpose.  No "accidents", no "surprises" but purposefully created in the image of the creator.

It seems obvious therefore that there would be such a huge divide between humans and the animal kingdom; we're created to be creators.

Rick Warren (@RickWarren) tweeted this week: "A society cannot teach its youth they are merely animals then be shocked when they act like it."

So why do creative work?  Because that's what you were made for.

  1. I also believe that those of us who thrive on novelty are demanded of to create in order to keep the world interesting for the rest of us that get bored.

Sometimes, when I look at an interesting work, smell a well crafted fragrance or feel the smoothness of a piece of manipulated marble, I wonder, "What have I to give back?" It's all in here, swirling around just waiting for motivation. Perhaps they are not the "right" ideas yet and that's why I wait. Perhaps I still have things that need to be felt in order to inflict my creations upon the world.

In conclusion, I say start packing for Burning Man, bb.

  2. That's one of my main thoughts about creativity - we have it because we're made in God's image and he was the original (and still the best) Creator.

Put another way, I believe boredom is caused by relying on the inspired works of others to 'keep the world interesting' rather than reaping the benefits of sowing and harvesting our own ideas.

Agreed. Thus we should not only create, but aim to create creators as well by encouraging one another to follow their God-given path.
